Bamboo is broken into two types; runners and clumpers. Most of the really striking varieties are in the 'runner' category, and that's where the horror stories come from. The 'clumpers' are generally smaller and very well behaved in the landscaping scenario. I have three varieties of clumper and all are model citizens. I get mine from these guys...
