|tomp913||Maybe a quadrant hinge? I looked at them and din't see a load rating for the ones I looked at, may be a problem as this is not that small of a lid.|

|DaninVan||You might also want to consider lid stays as well as the hinges. That's gonna hurt if (when?) that lid comes down on someone's hand!|

I'm building a presentation case for a friend that will have an item of sentimental value. The dimensions are 36" L x 11" W x 4"-5" H of 3/4" Mahogany or Cherry. What type of hinge would be appropriate for this project.
Additionally, would it be better to cut the lid from the box or build the lid separately.
