I'm just about to invest in some good quality carving tools. It's come down to a choice of two brands, Henry Taylor and Pfeil (Pfeil's the only one available here in NZ). I don't want to buy a starter kit, I'd rather get individual tools and add as I need (and learn).
Problem is, there are so many variations in size within individual tool types. The #8 gouge for example has about 10 size options from 2mm to 35mm.
As I intend to do only small relief or inlay carving can any of our members give me some guidance on, say, five or six tools I should start with (including sizes).
Also, any opinions/experience on the relative merits between the two brands?

Pete
I've cut it twice and it's still too short! But only at one end.

Why not send a PM to Corey, judging by his work, I'm sure he will give you the benefit of his experience Pete.
