Default Wood Burner Question

Hello,

I'm new here. Joined originally to ask about routers and woodworking, but I noticed this forum. I'd like some advice on wood-burners, but I'm not planning to use the tool on wood. I want to use it to melt polyethylene plastic. Could I post the question here? Happy to do PMs if this isn't the forum for it. Thanks.

Most welding of plastics is done with a heat gun and hot air using a small nozzle.

Thanks, but not looking to weld so much as apply heat to small areas to melt flash from molding process.

Hey Billy, most solid tip pyrography machines, like the Startec, Weller, etc ones come with a bit that allows you to put in craft knife ends and heat them up, it sounds like the sort of thing you'd be after.

A hot scalpel edge craft knife to trip off edges from molding.

Remember to have great ventilation and preferably an extraction system, fume hood, or breathing displacer when burning/contact melting plastics incase of fumes.
