Default Trying some new things, veneering and dovetailing

My wife wanted a "nice box" to keep in the living room for blankets and such, a chest I guess. Anyways I had some pine 1x material left over from a job and figured it was time to spread my wings. The good news is that this learning experience is for my own house, the bad news is that it actually LOOKS like a learning experience. I tried my hand at veneering with some veneer I bought about 10 years ago. I applied it with yellow glue, and held it together with blue painters tape. It came out OK, the seams are tight but the veneer isn't completely flat. Next I traded some stuff for a Leigh dovetail jig. I DID finally read the instructions, but I'm impatient and didn't have the straight bit in 5/16",which is what they want me to use. So I used a 1/4" and then readjusted the fingers to make up the difference! Great idea, right? Well, it's not showroom material, but I learned a LOT! Basic idea behind it all right? So I guess I did alright.

Takes a fair amount of guts to try something like this for the first time. Happy wife, happy life.

Looks like a pretty good job Jack. I use mine so seldom that I have to relearn how to set it up each time.
