Default Last-minute Christmas presents

A couple of sets of coasters from beech and walnut. Finished in the last minute present maker's best friend, water based varnish It dries really quickly and IME it's 90% as tough as the oil based stuff for most purposes.
One of the recipients will be an old friend who I bought a second-hand sofa from many years ago, and the beech wood is material I reclaimed from it when I eventually scrapped it. Not sure whether or not to tell them I'm regifting them back their old sofa!
I love the striped shavings you get from these when shooting the end grain on the shooting board.

Andy, quick and easy but still great looking gifts.

I think you should tell your old friend about the "re-purposing" of the old sofa. The coaster will be a great reminder
