Here’s a Xmas present I made over the last week. The lamp shade is a 4.25" cube which makes the exposed glass 2.75" square per side. The wood is 3/4” x 3/4” Red Oak from Home Cheapo. I bought the glass from a local stained glass shop. The LED array bulb and 12v converter I originally bought for a larger glass project I started. The bulb turned out not to be bright enough for that project so it got put to good use on this one (a smaller design).
The finish on the wood is 3 coats of Danish oil and the panes are glued in from behind using clear silicon. I would have liked to use 2 layers of glass to make the panes more opaque but I made the stile groves are slightly too small.
Ironically I think the lamp looks better with the light off rather than on. It was a challenge getting this thing done in less than a week but it was fun and a learning experience. The next version will be with some kind of exotic wood and a good complementing color glass (suggestions would be cool).
