Default Corner Cabinet Update

I mentioned in my previous post that I was going to make a top cabinet for the bottom one that I made. I finally finished it. This is one project that I am glad to move out of my shop/garage. I think I'll stick to boxes and maybe some easy furniture in the future like the sofa tables and step stools that I've been making.

I always learn something new with each new project that I build, but what I learned with this one is to not build another one. I'm retired and do this as a hobby so it's supposed to be fun, right?

I just finished it today and my wife already has stuff in it. I guess cabinets are like clamps, you can never have too many of them.

One thing did surprise me on this build and that is that it actually fit in the recessed area on the top of the bottom cabinet. There's so many measurements and cuts that were made that any one of which could have spelled disaster (as in me with a crow bar and hammer making it fit). But miracles happen and it fit like a glove on all five sides. I consider this my greatest accomplishment on this project, but if the truth be known I think a lot of luck was involved.

I like it, I think I'd have built it to the ceiling or hung that one higher, so the top wasn't wasted but hey, it's not mine. Great job.

Looks great. Are you going to add door pulls/knobs?

I did a kitchen in red birch back in 1998 and never installed knobs and pulls.
I do like the clean look, but the edges of a few cabinets consequently show some wear.

With results like that, luck seldom has much to do with it!!

Now, you may say, that youre gonna stick with boxes and smaller furniture projects, but I'd bet a dollar to a donut that
back in those deep dark recess's of your mind, in time, yet another big project will emerge

Well done Chuck

Thank you Pat. As for the pulls, I routed finger holds in the top edge of the doors on the bottom cabinet and was undecided on what to do for the upper cabinet but have since decided to do the same. Actually my wife has since made that decision. Removing the doors to route the pulls is easy with the Euro style hinges. This is the second time I've used those hinges and I really like the ability they provide to make adjustments to the alignment.

I agree with Bill. I doubt luck had much to do with it Chuck. Looks good. A plant sitting on top would be a nice touch.

Hello, Chuck.
I was long time trying to do my first corner cabinet (CC) with numerous mistakes but when I did I became a fan of them.
Like you, I am a hobbyist but I have a special feeling for CC maybe because I make a lot of measurements during the planning stage and, when everything matches I am happy.

Actually I am working in two of them. One is almost finished and the other is still in my mind.

John, it would just end up like the cabinets in our kitchen above the fridge. Full of stuff that is obviously not important because we never use it because we can't reach it and logically should just be discarded but we keep it anyways just in case we might need it someday.
