Default Cudos for Makita

A few years back, I bought a set of Makita Battery Drills. This was a set of a regular drill and an impact drill. Came in a nice carrying box.
Some time ago I had problems with the regular drill. The chuck consist of three threaded pieces that hold the bit when you tighten it up.
Well, one of these three pieces for some reason slid down inside of the chuck and would not hold a small drill bit unless it was long enough
to reach this piece. Even then unless you kept the pressure on the bit to one side it would slip loose and wobble and be useless.
I put it away and planned to try to fix it my self.
I had another drill to use so it was a long time until I got back to looking at it. I thought if I could remove the chuck that I could realign
the three pieces and be able to use the drill again.
Just this last month on August 29th I worked on it and was unable to get the chuck off.
(Yes, I know the threads are back wards) smile.
So I gave up and searched for a repair shop near me. I did find a number for Makita and called.
I told the guy that I wanted to have it fixed and even told him that I was willing to pay for it.

In the course of giving him the drills description and serial numbers, he ask me to read the 3 numbers proceeding the serial number.

It was 15.8

He said that that meant that I had purchased it in August of 2015 and it was still under warrantee. and if I could get it into the mail today,
I could have it in Houston in time to have it fixed at no cost.
Since I was leaving for Washington DC to have lunch with Trump the next day.
( well, Sandra and I had lunch in Washington DC and I am sure that President Trump had lunch some place also. SO ……..

Anyway, I boxed it up and mailed it to Houston. It was waiting for us when we got back home yesterday and it is like new again and the charge was (0).

I am very pleased with the service I received from Makita and just wanted to pass this on to everyone on the forum.
Had I waited one more day it would have been out of warrantee and may have been a costly repair job.

I have a Makita 14v that no longer holds a charge. It was really good, and there's a Makita repair shop not far away. Tried to have the batteries rebuilt, but it didn't work very well. Much happier with the DeWalt stuff.

The more I do, the less I accomplish.

These seem to hold a charge very well. I can not remember ever having to stop what I was doing to recharge one of them. but, then I may not be doing what ever you were doing with yours.
I simply wanted to point out the great service I got on the repairs.

David, you just mentioned one of the reasons why I'm a Makita nut.

I am sorry Alexis. I did a pretty thorough search of Tool repair Centers is Venezuela and could find nothing.

Where do you go to buy your tools? Lets say you needed a new router or a table saw. Where would you go to get one?

What brands are available to you there.

I have been to Brazil but never to Venezuela.

I wonder if your local brands of tools would come with a warrantee.

Here, most of our tools come with a one year service warrantee and you can buy an extended warrantee.

My Makita that I recently had repaired came with a 3 year manufacturers warrantee, with the starting date stamped on the tool.

I just happened to call them two days before the warrantee ran out

I've been doing business with Makita for many years. Their service is excellent. Being in Metro Atlanta has its advantages (but not the traffic) and we have service centers for most, if not all of the major manufacturers. We have a huge Makita facility very near where my concrete forms are made - so we have quite a bit of their tools in our shop. They manufacture and service at that (Suwanee, GA) location and in all of my cases they have repaired things while I waited. They built a big, new building several years ago (8-10?) and purchased the concrete forms from us. One of my neighbors is a sales rep for them. Great people!

Just realized I missed the point. The Makita repair station here in the high desert is excellent. I burned out the clutch on my drill and the guy at the shop fixed it under guarantee even though I'd lost the receipt. I don't use it much anymore, but I also have a Makita circular saw. Really nice machine. My consulting company logo color is teal, almost the same as Makita tools color.

The more I do, the less I accomplish.

In the 90's I had all Makita tools for my crew and the old 9v. stick battery drills were the standard of the trades for cordless at the time. They got hard use on the job and I would take them in the the repair center on the way home and they would give me reconditioned ones that were like brand new, this was after the warranties had expired. Those little 3" worm drive saws we used for demoing sheet rock and they were bullet proof. The chop saws ran forever, and the roto hammers never quit.

Hi, David.
Long time ago we had such famous brands as B&D, Bosch, Makita and Milwaukee but not anymore.
Now the tools come from China with warranty, supposedly but at the minimum problem we con not get the service. Right now my miter saw has a problem with the transmission belt and it has been impossible to find the spare part. A local manufacturer made belt but is not the same.

When I need a tool, I wait until my next trip abroad to buy something and sometimes, I check the craig list looking for opportunities just like I did recently.
