Another Wedding Present
I wasn't sure if my standard bench would 'fit' in this couples house, so I approached them before the build. That is why this one is different.
I had done some work for another company on legs somewhat similar to these, so I can't take all the credit.
The main part of this frame is mitered & doweled at the corners. The legs are tapered on both sides before the profile is cut. After the profile edges are sanded smooth, most of the shaping is done on the router table using a large rounding over bit on the profile. The radius of the bit is a little less then half the thickness of the leg at the foot. Sanding completes the job. The legs are fastened to the frame with glue & screws through from the top. Then, drill through the top, into the legs for 2 large dowels, inserted using plenty of glue. Screws alone might not provide enough strength at this joint. After finishing, the upholstered slip seat is attached with screws through the bottom of the frame.
