I'm building a pair of tower speakers for my home theater setup. I have a build thread going on the Home Theater Shack forum if anyone is interested. I did some SketchUp work for one of the originators and told him I was going to do the build and he mentioned I should start the build thread. He was kind enough to bump up my membership status to Platinum (lifetime, w/perks) for the SketchUp stuff so I thought it was the least I could do.

Zaph ZA5.3t Speaker Build

I included a short section on my new TS sled with an adjustable throat which is working out nice.

Thanks for posting Patrick.

That sled looks interesting, may need to investigate the adjustable width...

I always wanted to build my own home theatre speakers . Kinda late now as I bought paradgn studio 100's .
I built many car audio subwoofer enclosures in my day . I have a perfect circle jig on one of my routers for ports , speaker holes etc.
I kinda kick myself as I could have purchases raw drivers and built one hell of a solid enclosure myself from 1" mdf .
Calculate the displacement for lots of internal bracing and you could have one very non resonating dead enclosure . Not sure how I would finish the exterior , maybe glue thin layers of birch or something similar that could be stained .

The problem with home built speakers is that you don't know what they will sound like in your own environment connected to your own electronics. This of course even applies to well established speaker designs. The fortunate thing is that with most people their ears soon become accustomed to the sound, especially if a great many dollars have been put into the project! I speak from experience having spent many years in the esoteric end of the High fidelity industry here in Australia and in England.

Yes good point Harry ,as I seen your bio so I realize you know your stuff . I'm very happy with my home audio right now , and they did all the hard years of research to get it right .
It was always a dream of mine though . Probably it's a good thing I didn't as the speakers I have now are awesome
