Default Redwood ?

Is Redwood still available? Yesterday I went to 3 different big box stores and none of them carried it, tomorrow I will call a real lumber yard in the next town to see if they have any. Want to get some for some outdoor signs. Most of the Cedar I looked at yesterday had too many knots to please me. What else is a good wood to route signs and readably available? I have used the cedar fence boards with pretty good results but when I try to route the edges to get a better look that does not go well at all.

When you say 'cedar', Bob, do you mean Cypress?
(As opposed to Western Red Cedar).

The boards with all the knots had a sign that said Cedar. The fence boards I used were Western Red Cedar I think.

If they're Western Red Cedar, I'm mystified as to why it's giving you trouble with the edging process. Cedar normally machines very nicely; for example t&g soffiting.

White oak weathers to a pleasant patina. Perhaps you might use that.
