Default Not sure if a "Door Stop" is a "sign" or not.....

My daughter in law (technically my very soon to be daughter in law) wanted me to make her a door stop for her office. She works for a company at the University of Houston. Both she and my son are University of Houston grads.

The wood is Water Oak from a tree I had trimmed in my yard.

The door stop is painted but the clear coat can't be applied this week....too cold here on the Texas Gulf Coast. The paint is crafter's acrylic ($0.97/bottle from Walmart). I use small paint brushes to apply the paint. I've had success using this paint in the past.

I have not been able to do any wood work for about 2 or 3 months. I've had severe tendinitis and just the THOUGHT of holding a router makes me cringe. But today was a good one so I actually made 3 signs. Something tells me I will be feeling this tomorrow morning. But the smell of cedar and oak sawdust was therapeutic!

That's actually pretty cool . Frank it looked pretty nice without the paint to .
Sorry to hear about your tendinitis . I've been fighting it for 15 months and can't see any end in site

I don’t always insulate , but when I do .

This would have been the week that I'd have finished chewing thru the restraints...

Thanks guys.

Rainman, I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon for testing on Thursday. My ortho says that since my fingers are going numb, it could be a problem in my neck, my shoulder, definitely my elbow and possibly carpal tunnel.......or all of the above.

I know I have a frozen neck. I can't turn my head to the right as far as I can to the left. No pain.....just hits a stop! While driving, if I wan to change from left lane to the right lane I have to turn my shoulder to see if it's clear.

It's hell to get old!!

Take care guys!

Thanks Stick486.
I've been battling this for nearly 25 years. But this bout is by far the worse I've had yet.
This too shall pass..........eventually!

"Yeah, but I don't like the alternative".

I'm falling apart too, but I keep paying the doctors to put me back together "for just a few years more". Two metal knees, two heart surgeries, two time cancer survivor, and a type 2 diabetic. My aches and pains are everywhere, but I can forget all of them when I'm in the shop doing something interesting.

Your doorstop looks nice, but with the grain running that way I think it may split top to bottom somewhere in the middle of it. Also, the bark isn't likely to stay on very long. I hope I'm wrong.

Great idea for what would otherwise be firewood...very creative...nice job.

Maybe a little glue and clamp for that small crack...? Seems to run almost all the way through ?

Easy on the tendentious...Happy New Year...Nick

Glad you were able to use a router again. Everyone's right, it's hell to get old. However it's better than the alternative!
She may want to check and see that it's ok to prop open her door. In a lot of places the fire codes won't allow that.
