Default A Windfall

I went by a local wood shop looking for a piece of 1X2 Cedar strip. Git that and a WHOLE LOT MORE!!!

This was on their scrap pile.....free for the taking!!!! All of it is Cedar.....1-1/4" thick.

The profit on my signs just went up!!!!

Good idea Dan. I've never thought about doing that. They've been doing that with their scraps for over 40 years.....since they have been in business.

It's just a way of letting them know that you really do appreciate them.
You could make them a sign from their wood?...nah, I like the donuts better!

Great find Frank , the wood gods and looking over you .

Frank not to steel your thread or anything but if you don't mind I had a question . I remember my neighbor was mad at the world because the sign shop where he worked had a bunch of very heavy cedar pallets to take to the landfill . Would this be worth picking up and storing myself or are the pieces to small to really do anything ? I don't really have a purpose for them but maybe when I make smaller boxes with box joints the material could come in handy?

I don’t always insulate , but when I do .
Ok ,I never insulate

Rick, I have one drawback with pallets. They typically get reused by several businesses. I work for a machine shop. We see pallets come in from all over the nation......some are covered in spilled material. Most of the time I have no idea what else has been spilled on it.

Basically, I don't trust the lumber in a wood pallet. I'm not taking the chance of cutting it and releasing something harmful.....even though I faithfully wear masks/respirators for protection.
