I think pricing depends a lot on the customer. A lot of sign makers go for swap meets and other outdoor markets. A few will set up in malls, which are now filled with Kiosks. One local woodworker spends the year making band saw boxes and takes a Kiosk every year in a local mall. He gets good prices for goods made from scraps of hardwood (I bet he buys them in bulk, dirt cheap). I would also consider locating every lodge and rustic inn, and bed and breakfasts with rustic decor or location. Find the ones with logos and if you're using a CNC, replicate the logo. Market with a letter and go visit a bunch of places in local areas.

We live down the hill from a mountain resort area with hundreds of lodges. And that's just one of many other nearby areas.

Customized signs like that can be done in some bulk. Let them buy one or two special signs, and if they want a bulk deal on some standard signs (restroom, directions to meeting rooms, and such), then you can either job that out, or make them yourself, or a combination, you cut the logo, the contractor cuts the rest of the sign.

I teach marketing as part of my consulting work, so I can't help but pipe up when something like this shows up on the Forum.

I use $30/sqft pricing for my signs.....all words, no drawings. When I am adding any artwork, I tend to add $10 per artwork.

So for me, when using Western Red Cedar fence pickets, I get about $30 for a 6" X 24" with no artwork. I would get $40 for the same sign with one artwork. $50 for the same sign with 2 artworks.

My artwork fees are not written in stone.....if it's a simple design I may charge less.

I try to get 2 weeks to complete a sign after the customer has approved the drawing. I never start a job without their approval.....especially the spelling.

Hope this helps you.
Wow, thanks for the guidelines on pricing. That is always a conundrum.

In the past, I used a router to free hand signs. Never heard of a sled. It would have made keeping control easier.

I also made a lot of signs using my Bosch saber saw. I'd cut the letters out, then router the back and use stainless steel flashing, mirror or scrap stained glass mounted flush with the back (see the shelf-sign photo).

I just bought a Radar Carver and it will be interesting to see what paces it can be put through.

The three I sold the most of were, "JUST MARRIED," JUST DIVORCED" and the Jesus fish. Unfortunately, like most the work I've done over the decades, I don't have photos of examples of all but some relatively recent ones (the digital age helps a lot).

The reason I have what you want is, I never lent it out before.

Scraps are a myth.
