As Stick said check you app settings. I have no problems on either of my Mac desktops with this problem and I'm running the latest OS. I do have Windows 10 machine that does the same thing you are describing. This particular machine was not doing it until one day I was troubleshoot a different problem for one of my customers and I changed something, I don't remember what it was but it started doing the same thing but includes all downloads including pictures. One of these days I'm going to stop using my computers as a test bed for other peoples problems. So the long and short of it, is it is not your OS that is causing the problem.

I have Acrobat installed. I have no issue reading downloaded PDFs. I was just wondering why they automatically download instead of opening.

I'm usually browsing in Safari, I haven't tried the same with Firefox. I should try that.

No worries... it's not a big deal.

When I click on a public profile it appears only for a second and then it shows only the name and country, I used to be able to do this without this issue.

it could be a setting that was switched suddenly if/when safari updated.

It's not something that changed here. This has been the case though several versions of the OS and Safari. Most sites show linked PDFs in my browser (without any PDF plugin installed). I think that the (small) problem is that some browsers are more strict about the mime type settings. For a PDF it should be "application/pdf" if it's "application/octet-stream" it will download instead. I think some browsers will assume the file type. Or perhaps it's because I don't have the PDF plugin installed and am just using Safari's PDF ability?

Info about mime types: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...r_your_content

Like I said don't worry about it. I thought that if it was an easy fix, I could avoid this little inconvenience.

I have the same issue, Paul. I'm also using Mac OS with the Safari browser and on this site the PDFs always download. On all other sites they open in a browser page.

I bought an app for my office sweet called flex pdf makes it easier to print and even edit pdfs. But mike is right in browser setting you have to specify what handles or open or download.

I'm running into this same issue using Google Chrome. I'm no sure what changed as PDFs previously opened but now they download first. Very irritating.

when you try to open PDF's, pictures, music. videos and what not you should get a popup that looks like this or something close to it...
if you have the ''do this automatically'' block checked you will never get to see it...
your system is just doing what it has been told/directed...
if you don't like what's happening go to your ''APPLICATIONS'' and change it...
see the attached ....
