Default PDFs always download instead of online view

I was wondering if it's intentional that PDFs download instead of just viewing online.

I'm running Safari on Mac OS 10.12 (Sierra) but this has been bugging me since 10.9 (Mavericks).

Similar issue in Mail... some images show up in my email "Recent Woodworking Discussions" but some don't???

Is it possibly the "mime type" settings?

If this is the intended way to deliver these, feel free to discard or close this thread.

I think it is Apple. I'm running High Sierra and it's still a problem.

When I click on pdf files, it asks weather I want to open or download.

On other sites PDFs open in the browser unless I choose to download them. So I don't think it's entirely my application. Something is different here.

A little form always pops up and asks if I want to open or save the PDF. I always open them, which lets me read them, and decide if I want to save or not. I can just save them from there.

+1 What Stick said.

On my computer Firefox is my choice of browser. Go to the pull down menu, Options, scroll down to Applications, and select the Portable Document File(pdf) format files. I chose to "Always Ask" so I have the option of opening the file to view it or save it.

Hi Paul,

Try this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6558859.

You may have/have had some extension which is messing around.
there is no setting in Safari itself to control this behaviour. That said, there may also be site-specific features coming into play.

Hey there,

Do you have adobe pdf viewer downloaded on your mac?
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/i...dc-mac-os.html

Afterward, when you download your file, you should go into downloads>right click file>open with>adobe acrobat reader
