Default Profile Changes: Country

Some of you may have noticed that there has been a recent change to the "Country" field on the forum. I have decided to make that field a required field. Meaning during registration the user is required to pick their country in order to successfully register. In addition, members on the forum are required to update this information for it to be shown.

To set this, just do as you have done in the past, visit your profile and select your country. Then "Save". Your Country will not show up when you post unless you go and update your profile. Note: If you don't set this, it won't appear when you post. ALL new registrations will have a valid country, just existing members will have to manually update this.

There are limits with this, by that I mean I can't do specific locational information such as City / Province / State, reason being is, it's almost impossible to have a completed list of Cities, Provinces and States. If you want to share your specific location with people, you're more than welcome to do so in the Biography or "About Me" section of your profile.

The other method (previous method), was to implement a field where users could literally type anything in. Unfortunately with that, it's impossible to verify if their location is a valid one, therefore making it irrelevant to set it as a required field (in-fact it was a required field in the past, but just set default "N/A", which was considered a valid input).

This is something I'm testing out as a replacement for the previous. If anyone has any feedback or thoughts on this, please post in here.

Hi Mark,

This should be more than adequate to satisfy the "need to know" folks.

I think you have done an excellent job in this area, as always, and that's the reason you're the boss

I think that this will help solve problems, If I, or someone gives an answer, We can at least know where they reside. I can't answer questions it the information is not correct. This way, I don't have to take an educated guess

FWIW, Mark, adding the user's country seems like a nice addition. In most cases, it saves checking the user's profile, but that's always available if a more specific location would be helpful to a response.
