Exclamation 5/24/2006 - Server Maintaince Details

Well, the completely unexpected happened. One of the most recent forum modifications that I installed onto the boards, slowly corrputed the SQL database (location where the posts, members, information) is stored.

The only safe backup that I could use was the one that was created before the backdoored (bad) modifications were installed. I'm very sorry for the posts, threads and members that we lost. But, it was the only way for us to safely restore the database.

You may notice that some of the modifications that were installed recently aren't here. Tommorrow I'm going to really work on reinstalling the template mods.

As far as the email address, they're all fine, nothing was lost because they aren't associated with the database, so users with email address dont have to worry about anything.

If you have any questions or comments regarding this issue, please post them here and I'll be more than willing to answer.

If you want to submit a question or comment privatly, feel free to use our contact form: http://www.routerforums.com/sendmessage.php.

Just saying thanks for all the work you guys do to keep this site available to the rest of us - I'm sure it gets frustrating sometimes, but it IS appreciated.

Ditto on what Gilbear says Mark. I know you have a busy schedule with work and all, and to keep the forums up to date. You deserve and "ATTA BOY". Thanks for your devotion to the forums.

I recently recieved a few emails asking about the posts that were lost. Just to clear it up, the posts and threads that were lots cannot and most likely will not be recorvered. I'm very sorry for this and I understand that it could be frustrating, if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Gilbear, Dr. Zook thank you for your support on this matter.

Mark,
You are doing a great job. Open up an Okanagan Spring Pale and relax. If members can resubmit their questions, all will be well. -Derek

Great job Mark....I've worked in IT for a while, now doing something different so I know a lot about the pitfalls. The fact you've kept this site up and running in a fairly complicated environment is testament to your incredible computer techie skills. Keep up the good work. I'm sure most, if not all the people here appreciate what you're able to accomplish....especially with your other interests such as....work?...woodworking....etc. You definitely deserve at least an ATTA BOY!!!!

Update: 5/31/2006

You probably noticed that RouterForums.com was down for quite a long period of time. Well, the completely unexpected and pretty much impossible happened. We encountered a complete hard drive failure (the piece of hardware where all images and .php documents and files are stored, different from the MySQL database). Anyway, we're back.

The only positive thing I can see out of this is the fact that we got all of the possible server issues out the way therefore it won't happen again, right?

We'll keep on truck'n, thanks to all of our supporters.
