Default Thread Subscription emails

It has come to my attention that there has been an error in the thread subscription emails. This may only be the case for some of you, but I'm currently in the process of investigating and narrowing down the glitch which is causing the emails to be sent multiple times and with repeated information.

So just a heads up, I'm going to be temporarily removing specific information from Subscription emails in an effort to narrow down the problem. The only way for me to accurately test this is to wait for the natural cycles of emails both weekly and daily, so it may be a many weeks until they are restored to normal.

Currently you will see thread replies absent from the emails, my guess is this was the cause of the error.

Hi

Thought this was the answer, but noticed the date.

I get thread subscription notices that used to list the recent posts. I could quickly tell if I'd already read them or whether there was something of sufficient interest to go on line.

Recently, this has changed to just URLs of threads. Without going online for every single thread, I cannot tell what the updates are any longer.

Was this intentional, please?

Cheers

Peter

No repeats this week Mark, but as Peter said, it's a pain not seeing the actual threads so hopefully that's temporary during the trouble shooting period.

Hi Mark

Has this been resolved now, please?

The emails, without a clue as to what individual posts there have been, are just a waste of time, as because of the notification frequency, frequent visitors will often have already viewed the relevant posts, but only discover this after following the link and logging in.

The old system enabled me to quickly see whether there really were any posts I hadn't already seen, just from the email.

As things are, I just delete all the notification emails, as they serve no useful purpose.

Cheers

Peter

You've taken the words out of my mouth Peter, a complete waste of time as they now are, I just delete the lot.

The issue I'm encountering now is the sheer volume and size of emails. The majority of the community is subscribed to multiple threads, the way the old system function was, it would send every new reply per user per thread. This was creating a massive backup in the system and quickly overloading the mailque. Until I find a solution to that problem (I'm open to ideas) then it will remain how it is. Sorry, but it's way too hard on the server to be sending thousands of massive emails.

To clarify about the "problem":

If User 1 subscribes to threads a b and c. And if users 2, 3, 4 reply to each thread, his email will look similar to this:

Thread a
User 2 Reply
User 3 Reply
User 4 Reply

Thread b
User 2 Reply
User 3 Reply
User 4 Reply

Thread c
User 2 Reply
User 3 Reply
User 4 Reply

Now imagine that for someone who is subscribed to 20+ threads (which is close to the average, maybe a little less), and with over 20,000 users. Too much content to too many people is creating a massive "clog".

The solution I'm seeking is a way to serve the same information that you guys look for in these emails, but not in such a massive disorganized fashion. One thought maybe is including only the newest reply? I'm not sure, but one thing is 100% for sure, we aren't reverting back to how it was before, sorry.

Hi Mark

Newest reply would do fine. As Harry says, in the current form there is no point in sending the emails at all and we just delete them.
If we haven't seen the latest reply, we log on, if we have, we delete. We could use just the latest reply.

Cheers

Default Did the issues ever get resolved?

My preferences are set so I should not be receiving emails, yet I still receive (once a week on average) emails about updates to threads I have posted in.
