Default Router Forums Joins Escalate Media

As of this week Router Forums is a part of the Escalate Media network (http://www.escalatemedia.com) and will be administered by their friendly and knowledgeable staff. More details regarding this choice are explained below.

The choice to give up ownership of Router Forums was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make. Over the past 8 years Router Forums has grown and evolved into a top notch Router and Woodworking community that tailors to beginner and expert woodworkers. In addition over those years I have done my best to commit my time and effort to ensure everything operated smoothly. It has not been until recently that my time and attention on the community has reduced as a result of an increased workload at university. Over the next three years or so I will be elbow deep in university studies in an effort to complete my degree. This of course will restrict the time I have available to devote to the community. It would be unfair of me to continue to hold ownership and neglect the community, which is why I sought the ideal successors to ensure Router Forums continues to thrive and grow.

In the past I have been approached by multiple companies interested in acquiring Router Forums. Of all of those companies I spoke to, it was Lee Dodd from Escalate Media that stood out the most. Throughout the questioning and information exchange period Lee was professional, friendly and provided me with a feeling of comfort and trust. At that point I knew that Lee and his team would be the ideal candidates to assume control of Router Forums and ensure the community was run in a fashion that best reflected the interest of the membership.

I am sure some of you are curious what changes will come into effect due to this transition. Their goal is to let the community operate as is. Meaning you will not experience any visual or usage changes and all of the existing staff are welcome to remain. They only intend on improving the hardware the website is run on and optimizing the community to improve growth.

I understand some of you may not be familiar with Lee or Nathan; however you may be familiar with the communities they currently manage and have in their network. The two that stand out to me the most are: LumberJocks.com and WoodworkingTalk.com. I know some of you are already members of these excellent communities and are aware of how well run and managed they are. Without further delay I would like to introduce Nathan who will be available to address any questions regarding the transition:

---

Nathan: “Hello all. I’m excited to become a part of the Router Forums community. I’ve been a member here since 2005, and even though I haven't posted I've watched and admired this community for many years. It’s full of helpful and friendly people who are passionate about woodworking.
I know a lot of people are uncomfortable with change. Many of you have known Mark for years and will no doubt have a hard time adjusting to the idea that someone else is watching over this place. It’s never easy and there’s no replacing Mark but I will do my best to serve this community the best I can.

Please feel free to ask me any questions that you may have and I’ll try to answer them below. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.”

---

In closing, I have met some really great people on Router Forums and I would like to personally thank everyone who helped make Router Forums what it is today. Thank you! This is not the end of the line for me, I will still be poking in on the forum from time to time.

Mark,

I am sure I speak for many of the members when I say thank you Mark for all the efforts you have put in to develop the forums and ensure their continuity by passing the torch to Nathan.
Nathan, welcome to the forums! I look forward to working with you for the advancement of the forums. I am happy you have chosen to keep the forums as they are, what I consider to be the best woodworking site on the web.

Many thanks, Mark, for the time and effort you have put into the forum.

I, for one, look forward to a continuation of the past years of friendship and banter provided by the members. After all it is the members that make the forum the great spot it is today.

All the best in your future endeavours.

Well I never, just as we've got to know each other really well and I think of you as a friend, you do this! I really do understand your reasons Mark, and I sincerely wish you all the very best and I expect you to keep achieving high distinctions. Who knows, one of these days you may become interested in routing for relaxation and buy your first router, if you do, remember, powerful, variable speed and a BIG opening for template guides, preferably METRIC ones!

Mark,

Thank you for the many years of hard work and focus you put into making The Router Forums what it is today.

I hope that you find fair winds and following seas in your journey through the vast sea of higher education.

Perhaps you will find time to pop in and say hello every now and then...or as Harry suggested, possibly even pick up a router (more than one router is allowed btw)
