Default Moderation of new members posts

This is to let everyone know that we are short staffed at this time and doing the best we can on approving posts. Admin installed new safeguards to prevent spammers and the down side is they cause too many posts to be diverted for approval. We are catching more spammers and preventing them from polluting the forums so please bear with us.

Please do not keep re-posting the same content as this slows the process down even more since we have to delete each duplicate post.

I am reviewing our membership and will be asking people I feel would be a good fit to join our moderation team. This will take some time and I wanted to make sure everyone knows we are working to keep the forums spam free and the best place on the web for woodworking enthusiasts.

Thanks for your understanding.

I received your message but was unable to reply via PM due to the PM block in place. My thread was to test if I was able to post or something had gone wrong with the system. Many forums have a test area for doing this kind of thing but I could not locate one on here.

No worries "Blue", we are a friendly place to exchange information and I would hope you will edit your profile with a first name you would like us to call you. I apologize for the delay in processing your post and want to welcome you to the forums.

Thanks for the welcome Mike (second time around - I have been a member for a while but not an active poster). I'm not much of a woodworker but end up doing some woodworking in order to complete a bigger picture such as renovation or remodeling.

I appreciate you have a problem with spammers and bots - this is an issue on many forums. I'm not clear if the safeguards you have here are the best though as it appears to send legitimate posts for moderation. There may be better forum add-ons to scan content and be more selective about sending posts for moderation.

The understatement of the year - one of the friendliest and most courteous forums I've ever been on. Well done Mike & your colleagues.

Mike, thanks to you and all the moderators, you do a great job of keeping things friendly and on track. I like to welcome new members and have posted a fairly long piece on how to get going for newbies a number of times. It is my own experience over the past five years in the hobby. I'm pretty careful to post it only when it seems perfectly appropriate (someone very new who is seeking advice on starting is my criteria). I hope this is not a problem, but I know that as a newbie, I really had no idea what to ask and wish I'd run across the information I post. Just a heads up FYI and don't want cause any problem, I really love the Forum and have learned a lot here.

I have to say, I find this a bit frustrating. Post from 2 weeks ago never got approved, I have little doubt that the same will happen to a post I just made. I wonder if this one will turn up? Really kind of encourages an "oh, why even bother?" attitude for new members, or old members who don't ever post.

Welcome to the forum John. Persevere and I think you will find the trouble rewarding. This is a great place to get free information about woodworking.

I'm sure that Mike and the moderators are very busy trying to keep this forum running smoothly, otherwise I'd be seeing them reply to more posts than they have been lately.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

Acting on you complaint, I have gone back and located the posts referred to.

The posts should now be visible in the forum.

Please accept my apologies for not picking up that post.....
