Okay, I'll start the ball rolling. My favorite project is my "Steam-powered" Melodium
that you can read more about HERE
During a bi-decade garage and shop cleaning I found a bunch of stuff including a pair of old speakers for a PC. I got to thinking that I could combine them with an early model iPod Touch that had been laying dormant in a drawer for many years and have music in the shop.
I had also been wanting to make something in the steampunk genre and this looked like a perfect fit. The project was built by creative anarchy rather than a plan (that means I made it up as I went along
) and included things like plastic cups, old CDs, copper tubing, a coffee can lid, a 35mm film container, a valve handle, a recessed door pull, cabinet connector bolt, some laser printed labels, and other miscellany.
The other key thing that makes it my favorite is that I was able to create an outrageous back-story to explain its origin. (If you follow my projects you know I love them to have an entertaining back-story. Check out the Shrunken Head
project for another example.
Other reasons why this is my favorite project are that it:
1. Was a concept that amused and challenged me.
2. Was built with materials on hand, so nothing was purchased.
3. Allowed me to repurpose disparate and miscellaneous stuff.
4. Required the use of the table saw, drill press, router, bandsaw, and miscellaneous hand tools.
5. Was very useful when finished.
And, I actually do use it in the shop every day. (Hasn't run out of steam yet.) So,that's mine. Now let's hear yours.
