Exclamation Potential Improvements

As you all probably noticed, I've been away from the forums for quite some time now. I've been really consumed by work and the start of my new company (you'll see when it's launched). Anyway, I would like to add a few new updates to the forums to help improve the learning and sharing of knowledge. Also, possibly some improvments that you feel are necessary or you would like to see done.

I will be able to devote some attention to the forums within the next two months, so until then, could you take the time to try to think of a few suggestions or improvements that you would like to see implemented on the forums.

Always looking for ideas!! Anyway, post them and I'll check back and review when I'm available.

Thanks a bunch!!!

Hi Mark

A better Search Eng. would be nice one that can search all ...for text or items in the text/post.

Mark,

You have done a wonderful job on the forums in the past and your efforts are now starting to show with a higher rate of members and participation.

Some ideas to possibily consider might include the elimination of sub forums. It seems like the topics get burried deep and go un-noticed. One topic in particular is the voting booth. I think if a topic is warranted it should be on the main page or not at all. Many of us are lazy and don't like to dig and it may encourage more activity if it were listed as a main topic instead.

Another idea, and I'm not sure what it would do to existing threads, is to combine some of the lesser active topics into a general topic, ie; Lathe and Scroll Sawing into General Tools and woodworking. There are others as well, but just used this for an example. This would clean up the length of the main page and make room for more active forum topics and ease of navigation.

Just throwing some things at ya to think about. I personally am happy with what you have worked so hard to achieve and been here a long time and know my way around, but for newer folks it may make it a tad easier and encourage visitation and participation.

Look forward to having you more involved with us now and who knows.... we may even talk you into picking up a router one day

I agree with Bob, I don't think we will ever generate that much in some of the sub forums as traffic is still generated primarily from the router and it should be ... I think putting everything but our routing sub forums into General Woodworking would clean up the forum page a bit. Just my opinion. Other than that things look good.

Hi Mark, Doyle here.
I did not know you were gone -- being a newbie might have something to do with that.
I am having some difficulty finding my way around. Having said that; there is a strong chance, if it were easy, I would not have found all the goodies tucked here and there and gleaned all the fantastic information from this site. I have as yet to acquire sound from the Forum Help Video Tutorials. Need help with the help videos.
Take care
Doyle

Good suggestion, although it's going to be fairly difficult to implement considering the software's search function is default, the forum software would have to be completely re-worked.

@ Bob_N: Mmm, interesting idea, but I like the way the sub-forums are setup. In my opinion it's much more neat and organized. Thanks for the idea though

You want a better way to navigate around the forums? I'm not exactly sure how I could do this... ummm... do you have any specific suggestions?

I'm fairly fond of the currently layout out, although I'm open to new ideas.

As far as the sound on the Forum Help Videos, good suggestion, but I don't think it's needed.

Keep the ideas come guys, remember not everything will be accepted so please don't get discouraged.

Thanks!
