Default Respect For Others In The Community

admin note: reposted

screen.jpg

In this community members are expected to treat each other with respect at all times.

There will always be disagreements and fusses between members. It is simply human nature.

We truly encourage members to discuss and openly share their thoughts on a topic. It is how we all learn and life would be pretty boring if we all felt the same way.

That being said, this is not grade school. We don’t gang up in little groups to take sides or encourage others to do the same.

If you were at a local get together and got into a disagreement with someone, I am guessing you would take it outside instead of ruining the party for everyone. I expect the same here.

If you are not able to discuss a topic respectfully then you need to remove yourself from the topic.

If you are unable to discuss a topic with a specific member then you need to choose to ignore that member or take the discussion off the boards. If you are unable to do either of these things, I will help you to do so.

I wrote this for another forum a while back. Today I want to share it here today.

Read your link Cricket and I think it brings up a good point . Earlier I read there are complaints reported to the moderators on a daily basis . For some reason I didn't think there was that much animosity here ? This is probably one of the most responsible forums that I have ever seen considering how many members there are . Then again the mature nature of this forum may be due to the fact that most people here are fairly old and respectful ?

I don’t always insulate , but when I do .
Ok ,I never insulate

Hey Rick.... honestly, there are very very few complaints as a whole. I believe that is due in no small part to the standards of the community itself and to the efforts of the moderation team. A pretty high bar was set early on in the community and although rattled a few times has never fallen

If I can say something without embarking on a problem -

Cricket, why have you posted this on a pretty solid forum site with folks that are usually very tolerant of others? In that post you have said that "this is not grade school" but this very thread makes it seem so to me. Yes, there will be disagreements and not to be tolerated - and the very reason we have moderators. The guidelines are posted in the Introduction Forum here:http://www.routerforums.com/introduc...-you-post.html. Perhaps they should be at the beginning of the Home Page instead of near the end and listed separately and maybe a check off point before a new member can post.

OK - sorry about that, but it does irritate me at over 70 being told how to act.

Thank you for your input.

When a new member joins this community, they receive numerous prompts to introduce themselves (along with a link) by email, private message, and in a forum alert. They also receive links to areas to help them get started in the community. Because of this, it really doesn't need to be at the top of the forum for all of our regular active members to see every time they log in.

With so many folks joining, why not have it at the top. I and possibly many others click on New Posts to start their day here. If it was the very first forum header, an 'oldie' would bypass it immediately anyhow if he was to just scan the rest.

OK, now I'll go away

Age is not a sign of maturity and at 65 I took no umbrage from the reminder

Learning is an exciting adventure
