Question member feedback....

Has the section on Member Feedback been deleted?

I wanted to make a comment about the adds I have been getting today and could not find the section?

First ad to pop up was on how to improve my sex life.

Others have popped up on looking for Asian women.

I thought the forum did not place these type of ads?

I don't mind ads as such, just disappointed in the quality.

Another one that pops up is the one that says "you have new message, click here"..yeah right......

I don't mind if other members disagree with my comments.

Moved to Site Help and Suggestions

No we did not delete it. It is located within our Forum Support area of the community.

I haven't seen anything like that, but Google ads will sometimes bring up some unusual ads. When you see one that doesn't belong, please try to get a screenshot and let me know so that we can block it.

We don't have a lot of control of which Google ads show up but we do block bad ads that are not appropriate for this community as we see them.

You may see ads in a variety of formats (text, image, video) on sites and apps that partner with Google, also known as the Google Display Network. The ads you see may be based on the content of the site you’re viewing and your recent geographic location, among other factors. Depending on settings you've chosen, here are some factors that also determine which ads you see:
  • Types of websites you visit, and mobile apps you have on your device
  • The DoubleClick cookie on your browser and the settings in your Ads Settings
  • Websites and apps you’ve visited that belong to businesses that advertise with Google
  • Previous interactions with Google’s ads or advertising services
  • Your Google profile, including YouTube and Google+ activity

Is it not like Google AdSense where you can choose what categories of ads you display? With AdSense it's easy to turn off the more unsavoury categories that contain the kind of ads that James mentioned.
My experience from my own small web site is that the ads that pretend to be normal web site elements ("you have a new message") etc. are harder to pre-empt because they may be advertising any category of product. I have had to block specific ads when I've spotted those, which is a bit of a pain because you have to use a special Google Chrome extension to get identifying information for the ad.

James let me give you a tip, when you get a message on the web that says that you have won something special and to click on this icon to claim your good thing, don't. N

James,
I got a program from CNET called adblock pluse. its free and from what I've seen blocks all ads and pop-ups. I don't see many on this site, but do on other forums i visit.

+1 for adblock, it is a great extension to you browser. There is also a free extension called Blur which keeps everyone from tracking your movements.

I've found when I look at the Forum without logging in, I get Ads. When I log in, the Ads go away.

James,

This sounds more like a adware virus to me I got one last week when trying to download a program however mine did not show adult content like you are getting. I used several adware removal programs that did not remove the adware. I finally checked my browser add-on list and found that it had attached itself as an add-on to the browser and deleted the add-on. Problem gone!
