Hello all! I am wanting to attached a router table to my exsisting home made workbench on one end. Does anyone have any advise on buying or making one? My bench is 30" wide and I was thinking about mounting it on one side and using the cab below to use for dust removal. Thanks for any help!!!!

Hi Tim

You may want to just mount the router to one end of your work bench, on a router (9" x 12" ) mounting plate, then you will have the both of the best worlds...and you will save the footprint...(shop space) all it takes is a pocket hole to Mount your router in place..you can make a easy fence to go with it .the fence doesn't need to parallel to the bench so many forget that point about a router table.. :) a dust pickup tube and you have it done. :)

HI Tim

I'm not a big fan of the tracks.. I like to use the swing fence type,,one bolt and you can swing it right out of the way to pop the router out or just to change the bit out all from the top side of the table top..

HI Tim

I would suggest the one below, but I would also suggest one more board under the " pre-fab bathroom counter top. " just to add some more mass to the counter top, just cut out a hole in it and glue it in place....3/4" plywood or some MDF..

Gathion, are you trying to make it cantilevered (it's a separate table and it hangs over the original table and is held with clamps or something) or are do you want to cut a hole in the original table and beef it up with a layer of countertop material?

Noob, I cut out a portion of my bench and am laying the router top over it. It has tool storage below, but I am making a chamber for the router and dust removal. It looks like it is going to work very well. I built this bench 10 years ago and it over kill solid.

Hi Noob, it will be permantly (screwed in) to my existing workbench. I bought a bathroom countertop from lowes and cut it to size. It's particle board covered with I think formica. I'm keeping the backsplash on unless it gets in the way, but it looks ok to my eye. Bottem line is that it is straight, flat and sturdy.
