Default MLCS cast iron ext wing

Has anyone had experience with this extension wing. I took a leap of faith and got one from amazon. It just arrived and looks solid and well machined.
It is intended to mount on my Unisaw (with the addition of another 10" extension to the right of the blade.

My problem is that it has only 8" of table top space between the edge and the router spindle. In that 8" is the miter slot. Seems a bit short and that some workpiece won't have much to ride on. My old bosch table has 12". I am planning construction of 30 or so raised panel doors/drawer fronts and am worried the panels will rock.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated as this guy was expensive and if it's not better than sliced bread it's going back.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
I haven't got many critcisms of MLCS, most everything I get from them is pretty good. But, many, many times the pictures of the stuff on the website seem to be significantly out of proportion to what the product really is. I just went and looked at the extension table and didn't notice how close that was without studying the picture and comparing the printed specs.
That said, I see your position. I haven't got a whole lot more on the operator side of the spindle than you do but I don't do raised panels either. I wonder if you can't put the fence on the other side of the spindle and run them left to right, on the backside of the bit so to speak. Or, using a vertical bit, the panels would be run on edge anyway.

The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.
