Default Designing a cast iron router table top

I have a cast iron extension from a table saw measuring 257 x 686 x 40mm. This already has a 100mm diameter hole in the centre for a router insert plate, and provision for attaching a router underneath, so it will make an ideal router table top, although the distance from the router bit to the long edge is much too short.

I need to incorporate this in to a timber table top, and add slots for fences and a mitre slot parallel to the long edge.

I would welcome any and all ideas and suggestions on the best way to do this, or even links to where something similiar may have been done previously

regards,
Jill

Jill,

I'm far from the expert on this (there are many here who are) but if you've got the router mounting part handled, would it make sense to buy a defunct cast-iron table saw to use to support it and extend the table? Here's a post from someone who bought the saw on Craigslist for $25 and is looking to convert it to a router table. His job would be much, much more complex.

If you have the space, it might make sense for you since that top is designed to work as a RT when so attached.

Check out that new high-tech cordless router.. wireless and no recharging required!!
