Default router tables

If I make my own table, what type of insert should I buy? As a beginner and on a budget, I don't need the best do I?

Hello , no name, When you talk about an insert, i an imaging that you mean a plate. You can get a plate from Harbor Freight, and do a great job. Nothing wrong with it, it may not look as nice, You can also make your own mounting plate. The most important ting is to drill the plate accurately. It must be able to stay flat, and not dip from the weight. Let me ask you to add your name and your location to your profile. There are a lot of folks with no name, Makes it terribly hard to find you. Thank you!

Thanks. There's an old saying that goes like this 'you get what you pay for'. Is that the case with harbor freight?

Hi Tom, Depends on what you get from HF.. A lot of people here have their router plates with only a few issues. One thing about HF, their customer service is top notch, if you have a problem all you need do is pick up a phone.
More than I can say about Sears lately....

The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.

When you are purchasing tools, never cheap out, it always comes back to bit you. You may think you will never use a certian feature, but once you get started, guess what if you had only bought the upgraded model you would be able to do this job a lot easier. Never look at the cost only look at the cost difference. For example if you have already deciede to spend say $50.00 on an item and there is one available for $70.00 all you are talking about is $20.00 bacause you have already decided to spend the $50.00.
