Default Phenolic - what flavor?

The plastics supplier asks what grade of phenolic? Paper, canvas, linen, papyrus, etc. What phenolic do you use for table plates and jigs?
The supplier says its terrible stuff to cut, how do you safely cut it?

I asked our tool room manager and he said that in our shop they would cut it with a milling machine. He can't see any reason you could not cut it easily with a fine tooth carbide saw blade.

You might want to wear a dust mask however. Like MDF there are all kinds of scary adhesives in the stuff. You are probably better off not inhaling that dust.

I am running out of my linen sheet. I like the brown Bakelite and cut it with a bandsaw and drum sanders. Don't smoke when cutting it. The fumes are really bad for you. Both my Grandfather and Father used this at work for transformer formers as it is a great insulator. My dad has a collection of brass trimmed highly polished money boxes and decorative items, made by the family. I just use it for jigs.
