Default Kreg Benchtop Router Table

Hi,

I am new to the world of routing but I am excited to start the journey. I have a Bosch 1617 and have been searching for a benchtop table. I am quite exhausted and have given up on my original idea of purchasing the Bosch RA1811. It seems there are much better choices in that price range and I do not want to get something that I will out grow too quickly. The Kreg benchtop caught my eye but I haven't found too many reviews of it. Does anyone have any input on this model? Good or bad. I also was tinkering with the idea of purchasing a top and completing the stand myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings Jack and welcome to the router forum. Thank you for joining us. Many here have completed thier own router table tops. The advantage is that you can change it without feeling that you just cut up sometning that cost a couple hundred bucks. There are many sources to purchase parts from and you can be assured you can get help here.

Jack - I'm also new to routing, I bought a Craftsman router and a benchtop table over 20 years ago and just used it for the first time recently. I immediately realized that I needed a newer better quality benchtop table. I probably considered the same tables as you have - started with the $100 ones (just toys), quality improved substantially at $200 - not ready to spend serious money yet. I'm undecided between the Kreg benchtop and the Bosch RA1181 - I have not seen the Bosch table. I've looked at the Kreg, my observations - the overall quality seems excellent, the table size acceptable and I really like the fence - But, it stands 16" tall - it would be too high for my workbenches and also it seems that as much expense went into the (very sturdy) base as went into the table & fence. Kreg displays the unit being used on the tailgate of a pickup truck (maybe that is why it's 16" tall), but for table that will mostly be clamped to a workbench it seems pricy. Regarding the Bosch, I noticed it includes many extras that are not included with the Kreg (on/off switch, feather boards etc) and it's priced a little less than the Kreg - So can it be of comparable quality? If not for the 16" height I would have already bought the Kreg.

Have you seen the Bosch table - any thoughts?

thanks -
