Question Table top edge

I am making a pair of step stools and want to route a table edge on the step. I know there are ways to do this to prevent tearout but I don't have my router books with me and I have never done this before. Suggestions?

Hi George. Welcome to our little corner of the 'net.

To prevent tearout, route the end grain first, then the long side. Also, use a backer block.. any scrap wood will do.
