Default Kreg Table & Router Selection

I am looking at the Kreg Router Table and the Kreg lift.

My questions are:

Is this a worthwhile lift to purchase - as opposed to another lift. I assume it is made for this table which is a big advantage.

What would be a good router for this set up.

Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

What router do you have at the moment? If you are looking at buying a new router, there many models with the lift built in. Save yourself some money....

I do not have any router I would use for a table rourter. I have a Dewalt combo where you take the motor out and put it into a base.

You could use that router in a router table, but if it's less than three horsepower, I'd follow James' suggestion and buy a 3 HP router that has a built-in lift. Freud makes one, as does Milwaukee, and probably others too, but I'm caffeine-deprived at this moment so nothing else comes to mind. I've got to go...the coffemaker just chimed that it's ready!

What do you mean by "a router with a lift"? Is that different that a plunge router?

Hi Joel - Many of the newer routers; Bosch, Triton, some Craftman, Freud (who I think has discontinued theirs for now), Ridgid and several others have been equipped with height adjustments that can be accessed from the table top, pretty much precluding the need for lifts.
The router can be either fixed or plunge base.

The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.
