Default preventing tearout

I made a raised panel cabinet but I noticed that on the cross grain cut I had some tearout in the rails. what is the best way to prevent this. I was using oak, I tried some cherry and did not have it as bad.

You machine the end grain end first. Then when the long grain is machined it removes the tearout. Start on an end grain side & rotate the piece & you should end with a long grain cut. I usually do this in 2 passes going deeper each pass.. It's a lot of stock removal for a router table. If you use a shaper with a power feed you can use one pass.

As James says, endgrain first and use a backer board when making the cuts on the rails.

You can also make the end grain cuts on wider stock then resize to final width before cutting the long grain edges but this method can get a little tricky with short length rails.
