Default Lock Miter Bits

Are all Lock miter bits cut the same I wonder? I just received set-up blocks for Lock Miter bits from MLCS and their "BABY" lock miter bit is on back order. In the meantime I have found both the small and large bits for considerably less money and wondered if the MCLS set-up blocks would work with a different brand of bit?

When something is advertised as being foolproof there is always a better class of fool that comes along to prove them wrong.

Never having compared different brands of lock miter bits I would still tend to think they should be about the same. The profile may be slightly different but the centerline should be identical.

What matters on lock mitre is not centerline of the lock but the long and short points of the mitre. The lock can be anywhere. So any set up block for 3/4 will establish hgt and fence points for the long points of the mitre for stock the same thickness. Just expect to adjust a smidge to get it right.

Set up blocks must match thickness of material. 1/32" difference matters on lock mitre fit.

Featherboards are highly recommended to have consistent pressure against bit.
