Default Raised Panel with a 1/2" Shaper?

So I have an older 1/2" Craftsman Shaper. I'd like to try to use it to make raised panel cabinet doors. I need some recommendations for where to get the 1/2" raised panel cabinet knives for it.

Are you trying to use a router bit in the shaper or just trying to find a shaper cutter with a 1/2" bore?

I'm just looking for the raised panel knives that have 1/2" bore. Someone told me you shouldn't adapt router bits for a shaper...

Hi

"you shouldn't adapt router bits for a shaper"
Shouldn't or could, yes you can and save big bucks

Grizzly.com
http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/order.../shapernx.html
http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/order...spacers_anchor
http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/order...s/katshape.htm

You can get a adapter from MLCS or Grizzy
But use the Vert.router bits in your shaper for panel work
By the way you can use 3/4" bore cutters on your shaper with the 1/2" to 3/4" adapter.

I had an old Craftsman router/shaper for awhile. It would take 1/2" shank router bits or a 1/2" arbor. It had a reversable motor and I had to run it in reverse with router bits, carbide was pointed the wrong way. It was just a single, 10,000 rpm, speed so I don't know why you couldn't raise panels with it if you can get the motor running the right way for them.

The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.

Raised panel router bits may work in your shaper if the shaper will spin the bit fast enough (12k rpm). Most shapers do not spin router bits fast enough to achieve the finish quality you are after. A 3/4" bore raised panel shaper cutter with the 1/2" reducing bushing is going to be your best bet and give you the best quality finish and tool life.

These shaper cutters may be of interest to you.
