Default Can I re-purpose a table? Kind of new to this.

Hey all - first post but long time casual woodworker here. Never for money, always for fun and useful to my needs.

My question..

I have a few year old Craftsman Table Saw that has crapped out. We had bad flooding here during Irene and miraculously the table saw worked just long enough to get me to the last job I needed to complete when the motor finally went *poof* - I never really liked it anyway so I replaced it with a Makita 2705X1 (stand is included) so I am very happy.. So, why is this a table router question? Can I re-purpose the Craftsman saw atop and stand to become a router table? I have the capability to machine the aluminum top however needed. I'd even like to use the switch to power on my router (I can handle the electrical business with no problem as well) - It seems pretty straight forward to me but am I missing something? What would I need? Ideas? If you need a pic of the table I have let me know..

Thanks in advance all.

Tom, welcome.

I am sure you can "McIver" something that will serve you well. Other will chime in.

For years, I dual purposed a Delta bench table saw as a limited use router table by mounting a trim router under the end of the saw table and putting a piece of 1/8" masonite on top for a smoother sliding surface and fabricating a fence. Worked well for my purposes.
