Default Router table

I am considering building a router table. With all of the knowledge out here, if you had the choice what size would you build the top? Also what features would the table top have (miter slot (s) type of router plate or lift.....) In the perfect world what would the top be made out of? Thanks in advance. Laurence

There is a post about building a simple table top in the sticky threads.

Size? As large as I had room for. My present top is approx 16-18" X 16-18". Does just want I want it to do, but if I had the room I would probably have one 4'X8'. No miter slots. No lift. Laminated plywood top, plywood plate, framed under with 2X4s. I'm sure a lot of people would disagree, but works for me.
