I have a bosch 1617 and would like help deciding wether to install it in the table saw extension with a bosch insert or to install it in a lee valley steel top router table. Anyone tried either or both of these options ? Also does anyone know where to get insert rings for the bosch platic insert base ? I lve in GTA ontario canada.
Thanks in advance for advice on these options.

I've had a LV steel top for 15 years. They are good in almost all ways. They stay flat no matter how big a router you hang under them and most routers will mount in a minute or two. The one big drawback is changing bits. You need to have access to the underside of the table somehow. Either in an open stand or prop one side up if you have it in a larger table. It is fairly heavy which makes it a little hard to manhandle. Also on the up side though are all the accessories available like table mounted guide bushings, the LV micro-adjust fence, etc. While you might have to replace a sagged insert plate, you will never in your lifetime need to replace this table top. Someone will probably still be using mine 100 years from now.

Ron, as much as I like Bosch tools their router tables are sub par. I do not like steel tables because of the potential for rust which can ruin a project. You might want to jump on the 401 and visit us here in Detroit. The selection available from our local Rockler and Woodcraft stores will make the trip worth while.
