Default Centering

Just a short question. Is there really a need to have a router perfectly centered in a router table mounting plate? I understand the reasons for having it centered on a base plate for freehand use. Al

Al, your router must be centered properly if you want to use guide bushings. If you will not be using them all that matters is that your bits fit through the hole.

Hi Mike, that's exactly what I thought. I've suffered the results of off centered bases in template routing freehand. Al

Mine's 1-2mm off centre. No ill effects until I used a rebate bit which just brushed the edge of the smallest insert. If centred it would have passed through fine. Otherwise no problems
