Default Looking for a new table

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and wasn't sure where to post this question. I've recently retired and am getting back into woodworking. I've picked up several tools through Craig's Lise and e-bay. I just bought an almost new Craftsman 11 amp/2 hp 1/2" router. I have an old table that I bought years ago that I used with an old router that I used to cut tongue and grooves for a wood floor that I put down in the den. The table was an inexpensive Wolfcraft. I an looking to either purchase a better table or build one myself. I've seen several plans for floor standing table with storage that I could build. Obviously the table is only as good as it's top. Does anyone have any suggestions for a mid range price top? I'm going to try and search the forums again but so far I haven't found any info on those. Of course that may be because I'm looking in the wrong section.

thank you
Joe

Joe, hands down the Router Workshop table is the best design out there but they are no longer available. It is easy to build one and the instructions for the top are in the sticky threads at the top of our table mounted routing section.

If you do not enjoy building stuff like jigs and just want to buy a table then the Grizzly T10432 is the best deal out there. It has everything you will ever need in a router table for about $160 delivered to your door.

Theo's link will keep you busy for a while. MDF makes a fine table top and is even better when laminated with countertop laminate. Some will say you need 2 layers thick. I don't agree. It's more important to add cross bracing underneath or use the partition walls in your cabinet to support the top.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

Hi Joe, I have had my Grizzly table for almost a year now, and we love it. It has everything you need for almost any routing project. It is not a sloppily made table, despite the price. The fence is based on a 4" aluminum extrusion. You can download the owners manual to take a closer look. The $10 'oversize fee' is your actual shipping cost.

Thanks to all for your info. I enjoy building stuff but if I can purchase one and just get to work I'll probably go that way. Again, thanks for the input. I'll be on this site a lot.
