Default Which ring to use

Hello
New here, so here goes! I suppose this has been talked about many times. Over the years I have always wondered about the waste that packs into a dado which is cut on a router table. My question is this, would using a plate ring with a larger opening help reduce the "packing"? I have always believed that the smallest ring that is just larger diameter than the bit is the proper method to help support the workpiece. I have just rebuilt the out feed table on my table saw and incorporated my table router into it, and added a diy below the table dust/chip collector and am wondering if the larger ring opening would help with "sucking" the waste out of dado's etc??
Any ideas?
Thanks
Ray

Hi Ray.

IMHO, if you are using under the table dust collection, than the normal ring ( yellow?) should suffice for, say, a 1/2" cutter.

There is adequate clearance for the chips to evacuate.

Other may have other opinions.

Default router template ring

Hey. If you use a template guide that is just a bit bigger than the bit, of course the waste will fill the gap. If you use a bigger template guide, say a 30mm or 40mm, depending on the cutter you are using, then it stands to reason that the waste will pass through that hole. Problem solved.
