Default Shaper and template advice

Hi there, I've got a wood shaper with a bearing and flush cutter bit on it.

I'm curious what is the best way to use the template..

The template is 32" long x 8" wide and has 2 curved ends. Should I apply the template on the bottom and have bottom rub collar, or vice versa?

Welcome to the forum!

Will work either way. If your shaper isn't reversible, you may need to do both, so that you cutting down the grain to prevent chipout.

I have found that hand tools are the best choice when I want to make mistakes at a slower rate of speed.

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

Hello and welcome to the router forums.
I tried to keep the bearing and template on the top seem safer to me.
But like Duane's says sometimes due chipout you have to reverse it

Looking forward to your participation.
Filling out your profile to include (first name, tools and short bio is strictly (optional )but does help members to better relate to each other.
Thank You John

I prefer the template on the top, that way it's not such a mystery where the template is underneath the oversized piece of timber.
