router forum table worth?

Hello.

Years ago I built the NYW (my version) of a router table. One of my 1st builds. It's a little unrefined, and ... well it works. Locally a chap has listed a new "Router Forum" (by Oak Park?) complete system for sale. I can see that having a second table would be handy to leave set up but had previously considered one of those ones (like from FW) that just clamp to your workbench.
My question is I spent a while on the Oak Park site, looking to see what these tables cost and it seems like they only sell the plans? Is that correct? Being Sunday they are closed right now or I'd just call.
I guess my question is what is a complete set-up worth? This one is built, has the decals on it, is the yellow topped one, has all the UMH parts etc.
How has this table worked out for chaps & finally & most importantly, I haven't a clue what a fair price for the set-up is worth.
Any help is appreciated. I want to pay a fair price, as I think these tables are good solid users but can't find anything on the web regarding pricing? Help!

Hi Scott. Not sure what a good price would be, and as you found out, no point in checking on the Oak Park site as they are no longer supporting the table, or any of the accessories for it. They made a business decision to move in another direction, so what you see on their page is what is left of their stock.

As for how this table works out, it works out very well. It's not fancy, no lift or micro adjustable fence, but it does work well. And, if you choose to keep it as a spare, the original design allowed it to be completely disassembled. This would help for transporting it, or just putting it on the shelf for storage.

Tell us what accessories are included with it? That might give us an idea what it's worth. And, you could try calling Oak Park to see what it sold for new. I've dealt with them a few times and always found them good to deal with.

Bummer.

Not certain if I want to buy something non-supported. The chap is asking $2oo

It appears to have two router bases. 2 of the main white fences with the raised groove. One white plastic fence with a "mdf looking" chip deflector?" on it, another with a 45 angle sled attach, a white plastic & wooden braced high fence, 2 router clamps, and finally two VHS tapes. (now is that not going to work or what!)

It all looks new, can't see any bits, etc, but it is assembled.

Thoughts???

I think it's worth all of $200.. offer him $150 and see what happens. And not being supported is not really a big problem. The fences are really the only potential wear points. When/if they become unusable, a replacement can be any straight edge.

Good ideas. I know these were prob pricey originally but if the special router plates wear or get damaged I'm screwed I suppose. Your right, maybe for a $150 it'd be worth a gamble but then again, that would buy a new Kreg or Bosch table mount router table and I'm ready to rock. Ah well. I always liked the simplicity of how the gang on the show used this table, just swinging the fence!
I haven't heard back from the owner yet or I'd be able to share more detail on what it's got. I just bought a Veneer press this am and haven't mentioned it to the wife so maybe I should just hide out for a bit .....

Scott............a lot depends on how time efficient you are when building things. I happen to be terrible at it. I recently finished the Oak Park style table I've been building, and it is ridiculous how much warm weather shop time I used up doing it. Granted, I saved a lot of money because I had virtually all the materials already on hand (except the Grizzly router table plate). But if I had it to do over and was going to have to buy all the materials, I would jump at the one you're talking about, or even the Grizzly President's Special that I think you can get for about $150 including shipping. It's even on legs. But I don't think it includes a shutoff switch.

Bear in mind that I have the same problem on everything I make or build. I'd never make a living at it. It was an enjoyable experience up to a point, but in the long run my time would have been better used buying a table, and making the things that I want to use a table for.
