Search google for "Whiteside router bit test". It's a copy of a test Fine Woodworking did in 2007. I don't think things have changed mush since then with the exception of the emergence of some new brands.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

I've been using Whiteside bits for at least 10 years. I'm not technically oriented enough to tell you all the reasons why, but they cut better right out of the box than anything else I've ever tried. And they just seem to hold an edge forever. I probably have 30 Whiteside bits, and I haven't worn one out yet.

Far as I know, Whiteside bits aren't available in brick and mortar stores in my neck of the woods. If I'm in the middle of a project, and find I've just gotta have some particular bit that I don't already own, I might run out and buy some other brand. But anytime I see the need coming, I order Whiteside online. If I had a local vendor who sold them, I'd support that resource.

Been utilizing Whiteside since the late '90's when a Fellow Woodworker recommended them.

Except for a few Eagle America, cannot think of any other bit that I bought since then that is not a Whiteside.

Bob, Whiteside is top quality American made.

Ray, odds are good the Eagle America bits you like are American made and are built by Whiteside. (Did I just say that in public? )

O.K. Good to hear.
I have been trying to buy birdsmouth cutters for several weeks now. two UK suppliers who claim to sell them dont actually have any, and one store has had them marked as out of stock for 10 months now that I know of.

I am waiting for a reply from this company (also in the UK) if this doesnt pan out, I might have to ask nicely for a care package from someone (g).

Mike: interesting that you "speculated" Whiteside made/makes Eagle America bits. The few Eagle America bits that I have are top quality.

Ray, Whiteside makes "private label" bits. One of the magazines ran a bit comparison test where the Eagle America bit tied with the Whiteside bit. Now you know the reason why, this is not speculation. Not all Eagle America bits are American made.

You may of seen the thread I posted about the out of business clearance sale at Forest City Tools? See the attached PDF for some background information.
