Default TRA001 height adjustment changes when locked

Hi,

I have a table mounted TRA001 that I'm having a small issue with. After I set the bit height and lock it, I can see the adjustment knob start to slowly spin when I turn on the router. The bit height doesn't move since I have the router height locked. However, if on my test cut I found that I need to adjust the height slightly, when I unlock the router the router drops because the adjustment has turned. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure what to do about it.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes it happens. There is slap in the worm gear. It has happened to me. It does not happen it seems when I make the final raising the router instead of lowering. it. It might help if you retighten the height screw before unlocking the router In older models the worm gear was nylon. If that is the case with your model They used to ship you a free replacement. Hope that helps

I am curious though, Mike. Did you query the manufacture's Customer Service dept?
I suppose you could try turning the knob until the backlash is removed, before you unlock the body. Short term might work(?)...

On all routers/lifts it is best to make the final height adjustment going up not down.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll see if it helps to make the final adjustment going up. I didn't realize that was the best way. It won't turn on me if I lock it and then turn the crank to preload the gear. The only problem with that is I need to keep track of how much I turn it so if I need to go back and make a small adjustment, I get back to my initial setpoint. I'll try giving Triton a call as well to see what they say.

Thanks!

Mike

I solved my similar problem by using a spare scissor jack from a car to raise and lower my TRA001. Works great for a router lift. Price was right too.
