Hi all,
I'm preparing to build some jigs that will use 1/4-inch tempered hardboard. Around Chicagoland, all of the big box stores only seem to carry 3/16-inch thickness. Is 1/4-inch still available?

welcome to the forum.
knowing more about your jigs and templates would get you the most accurate information.
(a thought that if the jigs and templates are small-ish, could you glue two pieces of the 3/16" together ?).
maybe some photos of jigs you have already made.

If you are trying to get this at a big box store, you might have problems getting what you want. You might need to find a lumberyard supplier or special order it. My local HD has this thickness in 2x4 foot pieces in a special pre-cut section.

Welcome to the forum. I have noticed this trend to reduce thickness of materials lately.

18mm (3/4") now down to 16mm....

What jigs are you looking to make? Are you using bearings or guide bushings?

3/16" should be ok for a template...

1/4" Duron Tempered Masonite does exist. I get mine from a local hardwood supplier. Do an internet search.
Yeah, I haven't seen it in the big boxes in years,
