On health and safety grounds I'd have to say that vacuum extraction is a lot safer (and is the only way, for example, that a commercial woodshop should be working). But if that isn't suitable do you have a compressor and regulator? If so compressed air specialists can supply flexible air hose as small as 4mm or 6mm ID with reduction adaptors from the PCL/Schrader/(name your air coupling maker) fitting on the compressor which should be light enough and small enough to tape onto your palm router. Regulate the pressure down to 10 or 20psi and make sure that you are wearing goggles and a breathing mask as fine dust can cause havoc with eyes and breathing

Most freehand signmakers I've seen have cut out portions of the router base for visibility. The base forms a "C".

All that I've seen use vacuum to remove the dust, typically the hose hangs from above (out of the way) and is fitted to the router at the closed end of the "C".

I use a fish tank pump that has two out lets on it,one hose is fitted to the base and the other hose is fitted right at the bit (with a patch of duck tape),both blow air and keep the chips and dust out of the cutting point.
You don't need a vac.pickup the norm you are not removing tons of stock..
When I'm not using it on the router I use it on the scroll saw in the same way.

They make all types of fish tanks pumps from the little Micky Mouse ones to some real big ones that will blow the chrome off the bumper

I should note I use a floor switch with the scroll saw and the router that turns on the air pump at the same time..

Nifty idea Bob, will have to remember that one! If only I had all the fish tank pumps I threw out during my fish tank/no fish tank phases through my life. LOL At one point I think we had 3 or 4 in the house.

 

I agree with Lee cannot remember how many fish pumps I have sold and gave away over the years... but this is a good idea

 

ok for the fish tank pump attached to the router...any pictures of how it's attached? anymore details available. I'm also looking for a way to attach some kind of light.
