B&D model 7610 router collet needed

1190 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  reuelt
I have an old B&D 1/4 inch router model 7610 type two which after 46 years still does a fine job. I recently moved to a new location
and during the process the collet nut went missing. I need a replacement, I discovered that some De walt collet nuts can be used as replacements but is that true for the 7610 B&D?. Is there a drawing or a another source?

Norb - I'm sorry you haven't received a reply by now. It looks as though this forum can't offer you much help on your question. I have 3 of the 7610s and the bit collar is broken on two and missing on the 3rd. Yes, they have stood the test of time. (I have other "newer" Dewalt & Bosch 1/2" routers) If you can't find the parts you need, it may be time to upgrade. I cruise the flea markets and pawn shops when I can and often see tools that would be good for parts but their asking price is rediculous. But, they are out there. You just have to get out and be adventurous. Let us know what you come up with.
You mentioned that you are a machinist - do you have the means to make a nut yourself ?

I am a former machinist, tool designer, and instructor of tool and die apprentices. If need be I could have one made if I had a sketch to work from.
Personally, I think it's time to replace it. There comes a point where it's just too darn much trouble keeping the thing running. There are so many new, great routers in this category that it makes sense to me to retire and recycle the old tool.

Do you know any still practicing machinists you could hire to look at your existing router thread and determine thread pitch, length, and outer diameter? That information could go a long way in determining whether some nut in someone's junk drawer might fit.

The B&D 7616 Type 1 and Type 2 (from part numbers) use the same collet as the 7610 type 2. NOT SURE about the COLLET NUT .though
No harm trying following if I were you.
